Polymer chains can be linear, but this is not true for all polymers. There are also non-linear skeletal structures shown belw.

Branched polymers have side chains, or branches, which are bonded to the main chain at branch points,alsi called junction points. Network polymers have 3-dimensional structures in which each chain is connected to all others by a sequence of junction points and other chains. Such polymers are said to be cross-linked .
